And We’re Off!!

Storms Passing

Storms Passing

It was a promising sky the other night and the long range is better, thank goodness it has been a spell and a half.

Well we are getting off, by Shieldaig. Kenny is coming to our rescue after being stuck here since the 25th November, it was too choppy for the Spindrift to-day so we organised Seaflower and as the day calmed away he is having a good sail over and better still it will be calmer for us heading back. So we are looking forward to a night of first footing in Shieldaig.

It was very stormy yesterday at times, we’ve just heard on the VHF that RTB on the Inner Sound recorded a 96mph gust, this last while. But it wasn’t all bad we had a windy trip up to the top of the hill in the jeep and took in the bells, then sat up till two mainly on the phone.

Next day an evening up at the chalet was very relaxing even cooking the New Years dinner of ‘burgers’ on the open fire, Magic!

It is 2 pm and Kenny has just turned into the harbour a welcome sight, Mike and lorraine will be high as kites I’m sure so we’ll leave them to it, we are away for two whole weeks and looking forward to a visit to Germany.

A Happy New Year to all and good health for 2014.

About Bill Cowie

I've been living on the island since April 2002, alone for the first 5 years, my partner L joined me in 2007. We manage the Island for a Danish family who bought the Island in the early 90's. Their hopes for the Island are to make it self sufficient supporting its inhabitants and that is where we come in. We look after the stock, 3 holiday cottages, machinery, boat and of course the visitors. It is pretty challenging but it is a beautiful place to live and work, we love it and strangely enough we love it even more in the depths of winter when all is quiet apart from the gales and rain. We do a bit of fishing, stock work, stalking deer and loads of other stuff. We have good support from lots of people whom we have met over the years and have become involved in the Island. Too many to mention here but keep an eye on the blog, they'll be there for sure in the future.
