Nearly There.

Winterizing

Winterizing

Here we are at the end of a very busy week, made even more interesting with the continuing gales/winds/hail/lightening/etc/etc. But it is heading into winter and at the end of the season it is always an interesting time.

Yesterdays job was to get the boat out of the water. But a wee gap in the gale and I shot out of the harbour and picked up the last fleet of lobster pots, result 4 lobsters. A good end to a very good lobster season. Tonight Friday, lobster and steak just for a change, excellent.

Last Fishing of 2013

It was a wee bit rough but good to be out on the boat away from the build at Dry Harbour.

Skyescape but not as you know it.

Which is progressing, the last thing was to strip the old kitchen to prepare for the master craftsman Calum our resident (next week) electrician .

It was good to get a chance to tidy up the site before the guests arrive Saturday.

First Phase Finished

First Phase Finished

Very pleased with the build, it is just as we wanted it and we look forward to getting it finished on our return from holiday, yes holidays!!!!

West Side/Changing Weather

West Side/Changing Weather

It is always a bit of an issue leaving Rona and driving back and fore to Dry Harbour the changing weather throws up great views and you wonder would it not be much easier just to book a cottage here.

East Side/Changing Weather

East Side/Changing Weather

The showers have been very heavy and here’s one heading over to Shieldaig.

Sheep on the Loose

Sheep on the Loose

The view on the way back in the jeep on Monday was the sheep heading over to Dry Harbour. Their field is sodden and it is not fair to shut them in there so we let them out hoping they will stay around the house, fat chance!!

Storm Passing

The weather is everything and this morning it was just so black it hardly got to daylight.

Same Old

Same Old

Torrential yet again but at least we had some sort of gutter up. That was the week that was, we are ‘Nearly there’ off to Kingairloch tomorrow for the weekend with Kenny andLinda from Shieldaig top celebrate their 60th birthdays so we are looking forward very much to that. Then onto Spain, Barcelona on Tuesday, should be good. Will be in touch, from the train no doubt. We are not flying!!!!

About Bill Cowie

I've been living on the island since April 2002, alone for the first 5 years, my partner L joined me in 2007. We manage the Island for a Danish family who bought the Island in the early 90's. Their hopes for the Island are to make it self sufficient supporting its inhabitants and that is where we come in. We look after the stock, 3 holiday cottages, machinery, boat and of course the visitors. It is pretty challenging but it is a beautiful place to live and work, we love it and strangely enough we love it even more in the depths of winter when all is quiet apart from the gales and rain. We do a bit of fishing, stock work, stalking deer and loads of other stuff. We have good support from lots of people whom we have met over the years and have become involved in the Island. Too many to mention here but keep an eye on the blog, they'll be there for sure in the future.
