We’re Back.

Been a while but we are back. A very busy weeks ‘holiday’ enjoying Gloucester Royal Infirmary, unfortunately and the snow chaos down South. Coupled with reports from Rona of beautiful winter days!!! Thanks Mike and Lorraine!!

It was good to get away but good to be back, even on a night where the wind is trying to rip the house from its foundations, goodness knows what is happening outside but it doesn’t sound too good.

To-day we were amazed to see a small boat at the mouth of the harbour, we think it was a dive boat but the weather was nuts, they were very hardy or foolish. Half an hour after we saw them it really took off so where ever they were going it was going to be a tough trip.

Back to Rona! The first night back we enjoyed the winter sun and company of Mike and lorraine who had looked after the Island a big thank you to them.

We did enjoy a bit of winter sunshine and dry weather, so did the stock.

For a couple of days it was very calm and the views were very clear but all too soon the weather started to change.

So a quick dash with a bit of outside work and then all too soon our guests were going away. We had a burns supper and the crew of the MV Spindrift joined us. It was a lovely lunch time in good company but even then the wind was starting to blow.

The ‘wee timorous beastie’ is not real!!!!

Since then the weather has steadily deteriorated and tonight is a beauty, goodness knows what I will get when I step outside tomorrow. The house is shaking and when the rain comes the noise it quite incredible, we are watching the glass panes in the windows bending!!!!!

It is a good time of year to update the web site and play with the features on WordPress and tonight I thought I’d try and put in a gallery so if you look at the Wildlife sightings you’ll see a series of photos taken quite a while back but never the less quite a sight!!

About Bill Cowie

I've been living on the island since April 2002, alone for the first 5 years, my partner L joined me in 2007. We manage the Island for a Danish family who bought the Island in the early 90's. Their hopes for the Island are to make it self sufficient supporting its inhabitants and that is where we come in. We look after the stock, 3 holiday cottages, machinery, boat and of course the visitors. It is pretty challenging but it is a beautiful place to live and work, we love it and strangely enough we love it even more in the depths of winter when all is quiet apart from the gales and rain. We do a bit of fishing, stock work, stalking deer and loads of other stuff. We have good support from lots of people whom we have met over the years and have become involved in the Island. Too many to mention here but keep an eye on the blog, they'll be there for sure in the future.
