Outage

Been a while ‘yet again’ since the last blog. No excuse just the fact that ‘Avanti’s’ satelitte system has broken down, they call it an outage I call it an outrage!! On contacting them I discovered that my signal has been very week for three months, it was good of them to let me know (not). We still have Vodafone though so emails are ok. But it is incredible how we rely on the internet now. I guess we can do without it but a large part of our communication and of course the business of Rona is done online, I wonder how the past residents of Rona would view that.

So last week it was the continuation of the Autumn cleanup and getting ready for off. At the moment I’m stealing my sisters wifi to do this, in Strathpeffer. Been Xmas shopping, getting new specs’ and generally spending lots of money in Inverness.

What’s been happening, rain!! Lots of it last week but it did dry up and we got working outside.

The Burns are Full

In fact the hens got a shift to, it was so wet L took pity on them and put them to work on the bugs in the polytunnel.

Busy Girls

It dried up at the weekend and we got the visitors away on the Saturday ferry although it was touch and go. As usual the forecast did not bear any relation to the actual and a very fine Autumn day replaced the gale as forecast. It enabled me to put away the Wayfarer for the winter after using it for 1 hour this year!! Not good enough.

Away for the winter

On Sunday we got away too and had an easy day getting to Inverness and chilling. L left on the train for the South Monday and I went Xmas shopping. Unfortunately I forgot my lead for downloading pictures so there are no pics’ of the Eastgate centre in full Xmas shopping flow Sunday last.

Hopefully the satellite internet will be up and running when I get back tomorrow, All for now.

About Bill Cowie

I've been living on the island since April 2002, alone for the first 5 years, my partner L joined me in 2007. We manage the Island for a Danish family who bought the Island in the early 90's. Their hopes for the Island are to make it self sufficient supporting its inhabitants and that is where we come in. We look after the stock, 3 holiday cottages, machinery, boat and of course the visitors. It is pretty challenging but it is a beautiful place to live and work, we love it and strangely enough we love it even more in the depths of winter when all is quiet apart from the gales and rain. We do a bit of fishing, stock work, stalking deer and loads of other stuff. We have good support from lots of people whom we have met over the years and have become involved in the Island. Too many to mention here but keep an eye on the blog, they'll be there for sure in the future.
