A Selection of Photos This Week from Rona.

Here we have one of the coldest weeks for years, everything frozen, stock feeding heavy on the sheep food. Deer hungry, (that is another story) but stunning days with wall to wall sunshine for 7 days, to-day cold and cloudy but even then the clouds were unusual to say the least. Heather was getting burned on Raasay, Gairloch and not a lot of boats about or planes passing over, just very noisy wind.

About Bill Cowie

I've been living on the island since April 2002, alone for the first 5 years, my partner L joined me in 2007. We manage the Island for a Danish family who bought the Island in the early 90's. Their hopes for the Island are to make it self sufficient supporting its inhabitants and that is where we come in. We look after the stock, 3 holiday cottages, machinery, boat and of course the visitors. It is pretty challenging but it is a beautiful place to live and work, we love it and strangely enough we love it even more in the depths of winter when all is quiet apart from the gales and rain. We do a bit of fishing, stock work, stalking deer and loads of other stuff. We have good support from lots of people whom we have met over the years and have become involved in the Island. Too many to mention here but keep an eye on the blog, they'll be there for sure in the future.

Those ‘spaceship’ clouds look like Lenticular Clouds. We had these when living in Andalucia! A bit warmer generally than a winter in the Hebrides!

stunning photos, thanks – are those colours for real ? they’re so vivid I wonder if they’ve been enhanced a bit

Hi There, the snow and frost are getting a hurry to-day with rain and gales, it was nice when it lasted. I try my best not to work on the photos, sometimes they are squint or need cropped but the colours you see are what we get. There are settings on the camera to make the colours vivid just like Fuji Velvia but the light has been so clean just now and clean, lovely. The sun is low. Cheers Bill

Thanks Bill … I am so glad the colours are real life, your clear air will have a lot to do with it, not like it is here in London … when I’ve been in Cornwall, north west Scotland or west Wales on holiday I see those colours but then the air is scrubbed fresh in from the Atlantic
