Holiday Time

No posts forever, what is going on!!!!

Well the truth is that it has been a busy time since we lost opur last two folk, strange getting back into the work full time again, for how much longer. Nobody knows.

In the meantime we have been catching up on maintenance, latterly it has been a very busy time with double changeovers from the last week in July, I think these were the first this year. But Lorraine handled them very well. The stalking guests were really good with many great days.

But at the end of it all and much whisky drunk, we were pretty tired. So to finish it off we had to go to London to Lorraine’s flat. It is up for sale and there are issues, non of which could be sorted remotely.

So we had a mega road journey in our ten year old Skoda, no speedding tickets (so far)2000 miles under our belt. We returned from our road trip very tired, some holiday. But our final destination, Padstow, was really great. Lovely place to stay, very friendly people and gresat food. And no we did not got to see Rick……..

We left Rona, stopped in Perth. Called into Edinburgh for lunch, headed down to Darlington to see Marc our no 1 Ghillie. Delivered venison to him and made for Crewe. We got stuck in traffic south of Darlington, I got tired so we booked the Yorkshire Hotel in Harrogate on Booking.com for £69.00, bargain.

Had breakfast at Betty’s Tea Room, fantastic, then onto Crewe. Visited friends there for three nights then London, the driving and folk there are all mad, never again if I can help it. Check out the chip shop in Camberwell.

Andrea’s Chip Shop Camberwell

It used to belong to friends of ours, guests who visited several times, Andrea and Kasia, the moved North sold up, but not as far as Rona. The chippy is less than 500 metres from Lorraine’s flat. Used to be good chips but………..

After a day of busy in the flat, sirens, noise, it was time to leave London. Again we got a bargain at Farnborough Travelodge, but we now why now. I would not recommend Farnborough. The Travelodge was okay but our suspicions proved correct at 12 am when the fighting outside the Wotherspoons started, happy days.

A long drive then we arrived at Padstow, relax. We had a great week but as usual we had to leave early to get back for the ferry as the weather was poor. Oh well November holidays, what do we expect.

So here we are, a chance to catch up with Storm Bert outside, (Which did not arrive BTW) Great to be back on Rona. One more trip off for Christmas shopping but lots to do this week.

I will try to catch up maybe tomorrow, we will see.

About Bill Cowie

I've been living on the island since April 2002, alone for the first 5 years, my partner L joined me in 2007. We manage the Island for a Danish family who bought the Island in the early 90's. Their hopes for the Island are to make it self sufficient supporting its inhabitants and that is where we come in. We look after the stock, 3 holiday cottages, machinery, boat and of course the visitors. It is pretty challenging but it is a beautiful place to live and work, we love it and strangely enough we love it even more in the depths of winter when all is quiet apart from the gales and rain. We do a bit of fishing, stock work, stalking deer and loads of other stuff. We have good support from lots of people whom we have met over the years and have become involved in the Island. Too many to mention here but keep an eye on the blog, they'll be there for sure in the future.
